Andrei Cucuruz

Founder and project coordinator

Cluj-Napoca, România
By training an engineer, Andrei has, over time, developed a strong interest in genealogy and historical demography. He is dedicated to identifying and processing nominal demographic sources concerning the historical population of Romania, with a particular focus on the Moldavia region. The success of his personal genealogical research, coupled with the realization that Romania's National Archives hold a vast body of documentary sources, essential to understanding the population of the 19th and 20th centuries, led him to initiate the construction of a database. His hope is that the information gathered here will facilitate researchers' documentation work and, in time, serve as the foundation for a national onomastic catalogue of Romania. Show more

Interested in history since childhood, Dan developed a passion for genealogy and his family history. Inspired by his grandparents' stories about the war period, he sought to learn more about his ancestors. Thanks to genealogical research and recent access to archives, he managed to reconstruct his family tree back to the 18th century, revealing the origins of the patronym and the ethnic composition of his lineage. His discoveries included details about significant events in his ancestors' past, illustrating their faith, struggles, and sacrifices to ensure a better future for their descendants. Show more

I combine a passion for history, present since childhood, with a technical background and constant interest in new technologies. In recent years, I have dedicated myself to historical and genealogical research, especially in the Țara Făgărașului area and Mărginimea Sibiului. Besides documentation work, I emphasize popularizing local historical heritage, aiming to make it accessible and relevant to the general public. One of my main goals is contributing to the creation of the largest genealogical database in Romania by leveraging digital and collaborative resources. Show more
